This out-and-back ride along a dirt road follows the Duchesne Ridge to Wolf Creek Summit, overlooking the West Fork of the Duchesne canyon and offering occasional views of the High Uintas. Because the road follows the ridge, there is little change in elevation, making this a great ride for beginners and distances can be varied. The entire length of the ride to Wolf Creek Summit is 17 miles round-trip. A shorter ride (12 miles round-trip) reaches Heart Lake Overlook, a heart-shaped lake bordered by intriguing conglomerate spires. This is an excellent photo point, especially in the fall when the lower water level of the lake has changed it's shape to nearer that of a butterfly and surrounding aspens have reached their brilliant fall colors. The Duchesne Ridge road is open to motor vehicles and several undeveloped campsites along the ridge make this a perfect weekend getaway! To reach the Duchesne Ridge, take Highway 35 east of Woodland to the Mill Hollow turnoff (Forest Road #054). Turn right onto this road, pass Mill Hollow Reservoir, to the junction with the Duchesne Ridge road (Forest Road #091), approximately 3 miles past the reservoir. Park off the road at the junction to begin the ride.
