This 16-mile intermediate loop is a favorite with area mountain bikers. The high elevation makes for cool temperatures throughout the summer and the scenery is spectacular! Meadows of wildflowers intermixed with spruce forest typify the landscape and distant views of the High Uinta Mountains dot the horizon. The ride begins at Soapstone Pass, east of Woodland, on Forest Road #089. Park off the road near the pass and follow #089 east 4.5 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn left at the "T" onto Forest Road #174 toward Cold Springs. At approximately 8 miles into the ride, Trail Hollow Road forks to the right. This 3-mile out-and-back spur road is a strenuous climb to the bluffs overlooking the Duchesne River Valley and is well worth the few extra miles. To continue the loop, follow #174 to the junction with Forest Road #304. Turn left on #304 and follow it to Soapstone Road. Bear left again and climb Soapstone Road back to Soapstone Pass. The entire route is open to motor vehicles and ATVs. To access the Soapstone Basin ride, follow US Hwy 35 east of Woodland to the Soapstone turnoff, Forest Road #037. Follow this road approximately 2 miles to the junction with #089 on the right. Several undeveloped campsites along the route make for a delightful overnight stay where you can ride right from camp.
